Michael Cerizo has been doing photography since he picked up his father’s camera in 1989 at the age of nine and began his journey as a professional photographer. Michael had a successful studio in Storm Lake, Iowa for many years and now resides in Omaha, Nebraska.
He received his Masters of Photography Degree in 1998 and his Craftsman's Degree in 1999, both awarded by Professional Photographers of America. He also received his Iowa Fellowship from the Professional Photographers of Iowa. Michael is actively involved in photo education both at the professional and college level. He taught as an instructor for 3 years at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, IA and has spoken at numerous state conventions. Michael also does workshops throughout the country concentrating on his approach to children's photography.
Over the past 18 years, Michael has won many national, regional and state awards. In 2007, he received his first 100 in print competition at the HOA. He won Best Print of Show out of over 700 prints and received the Top Women's Portrait, Top Illustrative Print, and a Kodak Gallery Award. In 2006, Michael received PPA’s Photographer of the Year. In 2010, Michael received the Medlar Award and scored another 100 at Iowa and in 2009 was Master Photographer of the Year in Iowa. In 2011 Michael received his second Medlar Award and was also Master Photographer of the Year.
